About Me

I've had many careers in my life - Engineer, Art Gallery Owner, Software Engineer, Inventor, Author, etc.

 

But several years ago, I RETIRED.

 

Then, bored out of my mind playing golf and tennis, I decided I finally had the time to learn a new language.

 

After struggling with lots of different language programs, I found a "secret" that helped me become fluent in Spanish.   That's when I founded The ShareLingo Project, to share that secret and help other people become fluent also.

 

When I decided to make ShareLingo available online, I started learning about Online Marketing, Webinars, Product Launches, and all those concepts - and I built a team to help me.

 

Then other people started needing launch help - and that's when my team and I formed Virtual Launch Team

 

And then ... I started helping entrepreneurs and organizations do WEBINARS.

 

Now that I'm retired, I'm busier than ever.

The ShareLingo Project is a Social Enterprise that I founded to help connect English and Spanish speakers meet and practice together.  But it's much more than another language program.  The underlying mission of ShareLingo is to "Connect Cultures Through Language".  

 

But how did ShareLingo start?

 

As mentioned above, it started when I was learning Spanish and discovered a "secret" to becoming fluent.

 

It's so OBVIOUS once you hear it...

 

The secret is this:   The more people you can help learn to speak YOUR language, the FASTER and EASIER you will speak THEIRS. 

 

Simple as that.   

 

Now - there are lots of reasons this statement is true - and why it works so well. I won't get into them all here - but it just WORKS!

  • Here's how I got to this point... 

     

    I'm the founder of The ShareLingo Project – a Social Enterprise that helps people who speak different languages connect and understand each other – both literally (the languages) and culturally. While the program was developed primarily to assist individuals and non-profits (schools, clinics, churches, etc.) it has proven to be a very effective solution within the corporate environment as well.


    Prior to founding ShareLingo, I was active in many different ventures. I earned a degree in Computer Engineering and my first job out of college was assisting the Canadian and then the Australian military on large computer based training programs.

     

    This position took me to Australia, where I joined a conference and exhibition company as a computer programmer (writing, among other things, the world’s first real-time conference delegate registration system). While with this company, I earned my MBA with a focus on international business, and advanced from computer programmer to the Board of Director and became General Manager. During this time, I travelled extensively throughout Australasia to help promote Australian exhibitions to large delegations from countries like China and Vietnam.


    Upon my return to the United States, I purchased an art gallery in Breckenridge Colorado, and developed Masterpiece Solutions – the first gallery management software suite capable of integrating online and in-store inventory, images, and meta-data for galleries and antique dealers.

  • After selling the software business, I invented Silpoura – a silicone kitchen device that aides pouring of almost anything. Of Silpoura, I say, “One can literally pour hot bacon or hamburger grease directly from a skillet into a coke can.”


    But it is with ShareLingo that I feel I have found my mission in life.


    “Helping people from different cultures connect and understand each other is something our society desperately needs. ShareLingo is working towards world peace.


    ShareLingo began when, later in life, I decided to really learn a second language, and selected Spanish. Although I was living in Denver, where there is a very large Spanish speaking community, I found very few resources that helped me connect with people I could practice with. So, as an engineer, I decided to “fix the problem” and ShareLingo came about.


    I worked with a local non-profit and brought English and Spanish speakers together. Rather than teaching them, as in a traditional environment, I created a method to help them teach each other. An unplanned, and beautiful, result of the program was seeing the participants really become friends with each other.  This program broke down cultural barriers in a way that I had never experienced before.

The thing that is not often recognized is that the barriers have much more to do with culture and trust than they do with language. Yes, I work on the language barrier – but I focus more on building trust and friendship between the English and Spanish speaking participants. Once that is achieved, absolutely anything is possible.

I’m putting the finishing touches on my personal coaching program for people who genuinely want to learn Spanish, and that should be available soon. I learned Spanish late in life (I started when I was 53) so I know about the hurdles…

But I did it – I’m fluent – I found the missing link, and I know that anyone can do it.

But how did VLT start?

 

Well - it started when I was really overwhelmed starting my own online business… all the technology, and tasks, were just too much for one person to handle.  I’m a computer engineer, and tech doesn’t scare me, so I remember thinking:

  1. I need to get some help
  2. There must be a simpler way to do this
  3. If I'm overwhelmed, other people must be also  

And there was a simpler way - My team and I broke down the online marketing process into three simple and achievable "launch stages" - AND - we also decided to help people implement those stages.

 

About Me and VLT

Let me back up. I retired a bit early (I was 49) when I sold a software company that helps art galleries and antique dealers.  That’s a whole different chapter in my story. I tinkered around - playing golf and tennis - and I even invented a new kitchen gadget.  But then, I decided that I finally had enough time to learn a second language. That’s something I had REALLY been wanting to do my whole life.

 

But then I discovered the “secret” to learning a new language.  I’ll tell you that secret in just a bit.  But, what I discovered worked, and I can speak Spanish fluently now.  Seriously - I’ve even been interviewed on Telemundo about it, in Spanish.

 

Well, naturally, I wanted to share this secret with the world.  I started teaching people here in Denver, but that was in small groups of 10 people at a time. That was very satisfying, and I helped a couple thousand people.  I found out that ANYBODY can learn this way. You don’t have to be a geek, or an engineer, or retired!  And it works ESPECIALLY if all the other stuff is frustrating you.  So I wanted to share this secret with MILLIONS of people.  

 

And that meant Online Marketing.

 

That’s when I started studying online gurus like Jeff Walker, Ryan Lavesque, Todd Brown, and a host of others who all teach about online marketing.

 

But even with all that theory, I couldn’t do it all myself.  

 

So I put together a team to help me.

 

And you know what, the online marketing game turned out to be a lot harder than all the Guru’s let on. In fact, we tried several online launches that were total nose dives.  You see, something really important was missing.

 

Just like with learning a new language, the “standard” solutions were hard and confusing.

I had studied all that theory about launching online. And I spent a fortune on tech platforms like Clickfunnels, and Thinkific.

 

But it wasn’t quite working.

 

Until I discovered what was wrong with my PROCESS - I’m an Engineer, remember?

 

Well I broke down the online launch process into little chunks, or “stages,” that my team and I could execute.  Kind of like what I did when I wanted to find a different way to learn a language.

 

Identify the problem, and develop the simplest solution. And that changed everything.

 

So I started doing Launches, in both English and Spanish, using this simpler model that I developed.  

 

And then two things happened that formed the beginnings of Virtual Launch Team.
